MUS528: Seminar in Musicology: Music and Hermeneutics

Course Info

Examines various approaches to the interpretation of music. The repertoire ranges from the early 19th-century to the present. These approaches include agency, temporality, narrativity, intertextuality, and subjectivity. Texts come from the areas of critical theory (Bergson, Lacan, Kristeva, Deleuze, etc.) and musicology/theory (Abbate, Monelle, Kramer, Klein, etc.).
