Dasha Koltunyuk ’15, Wins Thousand Islands International Chopin Competition

Congratulations to Dasha Koltunyuk ‘2015, Marketing & Outreach Manager for the Music Department, who won first place at the Thousand Islands International Piano Competition. First place prize was $2000. Second and third place winners were students from the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Eastman School of Music. Reflecting on her experience, Dasha shared that for her,

“One of the most rewarding aspects of the competition was the opportunity to challenge the stereotype that conservatory is the only viable route in music. I have gained so much from my time as an undergrad on campus exploring myriad interests, and continue to learn deeply as I engage with music from unexpected angles doing full-time outreach work for the department. I feel I take this with me whenever I perform. That a passion for music can be developed through endless ways is something I believe in very strongly, and I am grateful for the chance to have shared this belief.”
