The Making Tunes! concert series is associated with a course of the same name taught by Dan Trueman at Princeton University in the Fall of 2011. In this course, students will learn tunes, both traditional and original, from a range of esteemed musicians, including all those in the concert series. Traditions from Norway through Ireland and America will be the primary focus, and as is typical with "vernacular" musics, learning and composing will all be done by ear. We will also make new tunes, and learn from our guests how they balance respect for tradition with the creative impulse.
"Tradition in music is not frozen at a point in time, but is a process in motion that is undergoing constant change and refinement. It is a reflection of people's lives."
