About the Artist:
Edward Zhang ‘19 is a pianist and composer from Toronto, Canada, majoring in Chemistry with a Certificate in Musical Performance. A former student of Gergely Szokolay, Edward currently studies piano with Margaret Kampmeier. While at Princeton, he has participated in masterclasses with pianists Paul Lewis, Daniil Trifonov, and Jon Kimura Parker. As a collaborative pianist, he frequently performs with string and wind players as well as singers, and has occasionally performed with the Princeton University Sinfonia. He is a member and former music director of the Princeton Pianists Ensemble, as well as a member of the Princeton Chamber Music Society. As a composer, he began his studies in high school with Peter Ware; at Princeton, his composition mentors have included Dmitri Tymoczko, Dan Trueman, Juri Seo, Viet Cuong, and Annika Socolofsky, and he is a member of the Princeton Undergraduate Composers Collective. In December of 2018, his orchestra piece Caverns was premiered by the PU Sinfonia. After graduating from Princeton, he will pursue a PhD in Chemistry at Northwestern University.
Charlie Liu ‘22 is a freshman from Plainsboro, NJ and intends to study Computer Science with a Certificate in Musical Performance. He is currently a member of the Princeton Pianists Ensemble and studies piano with Ingrid Clarfield at Westminster Choir College. Over the years, he has won numerous awards, including top prizes in the David Dubois International Piano Competition and the Arthur Fraser International Piano Competition, as well as the Lang Lang International Music Foundation Scholarship. Charlie has performed on the Ellen DeGeneres Show and Oprah Winfrey Show as well as for luminaries such as Queen Rania of Jordan and Bono of U2. In his leisure time, Charlie enjoys a variety of video games.
