About the Artist:
Born and raised in New Jersey, Katie Liu is a senior at Princeton University concentrating in Operations Research and Financial Engineering with certificates in Musical Performance and Computer Science. She picked up the violin at age 5 and the viola in January of 2018 on a whim, instantly falling in love with the instrument. In her violin years, she studied with Duoming Ba of the New York Philharmonic for many years and won numerous state competitions along the way, performing extensively and soloing with the Bravura Philharmonic, New Jersey Youth Orchestra, and the Summit Symphony. She is an alumna of The Juilliard School Pre-College Division, where she studied under Masao Kawasaki, and also served as concertmaster of the Bravura Youth Orchestra. In her years of orchestral experience, she has toured Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, and Spain. She is a prizewinner of the National YoungArts Foundation. Katie recently made her solo viola debut with the Princeton University Orchestra as a winner of the Princeton University Concerto Competition, and toured with Per Tengstrand in his Beethoven Safari in Sweden at the end of August 2019, along with her fellow classmates. She has recently performed with both the Richardson Chamber Players and the New York Piano Society as a guest artist. On campus, she has held principal positions on both instruments in the Princeton University Orchestra.
She currently studies with Eric Wyrick on both instruments. Outside of music, Katie is an avid solo-traveler and enjoys hip-hop dance and pho.
