Cellist Leland Ko '20 presents his senior recital as part of the Certificate in Music Performance

About the Artist:

Leland Ko is a 21-year-old cellist from Weston, MA. He was formerly a student Paul Katz of the New England Conservatory, but now studies with Alberto Parrini at Princeton University. Prior to that, Leland was a long-time student of Ronald Lowry.

Though he grew up a part of Boston’s youth orchestra culture – having been a member of the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra for four years before joining the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra after its founding in 2012 – Leland has often spent summers seeking chamber music. Having attended the Perlman Music Program, Orford Musique, and Ravinia’s Steans Music Institute, Leland has had the chance to study with and occasionally perform alongside teachers and chamber musicians from all over the world. Leland’s love for chamber music has also led him to be artistic director of Opus 21, Princeton University’s chamber music collective on campus, as well as an artist in residence for the New York Piano Society.

Leland is also a dedicated tennis player and fan, having played competitively on the USTA circuit through much of his youth and serving as a stalwart on both his high school’s team and Princeton University’s club team. For several years in college, Leland was also a competitive long distance runner, which conveniently complemented his other passion for (eating) food.
