The Department of Music is excited to announce revisions to the curriculum for Music Majors—the first such curricular change since the late 1990s. To see the comprehensive new curriculum,...
For an aspiring musician, few experiences are more unforgettable than performing alongside world-class professionals. Four lucky Princeton University Glee Club members — Madeline Kushan '20, Mariana Corichi Gomez '21, Sergei Tugarinov '19, and Julius Foo '21 — have recently had the chance to do just that in a new collaboration between the Glee Club and the renowned Tenebrae Choir.
The students rehearsed and presented an eight-voice recital with four Tenebrae Associate Artists, including a performance of Owain Park's "When Love Speaks" singing alongside the composer. They then joined the 22-member Tenebrae Choir for a concert at the Church of St Bartholomew the Great for a performance that The Times (UK) praised as "liturgical repertoire sung with astonishing beauty and force." (Check out the full review here, where the students get their own awesome call-outs!)
Speaking of the new collaboration, Director of Choral Activities Gabriel Crouch shares:
“A little over a year ago, Princeton’s Glee Club was given the chance to sing Joby Talbot’s Path of Miracles with Tenebrae, and we realized that there is nothing… no lesson taught, no book read, and no technique practiced… that can substitute for the experience of making music right alongside the best in the business. So, for a lucky quartet of singers from Princeton, this priceless opportunity to spend several days rehearsing and performing with Nigel Short and the singers of Tenebrae will stay with them forever and equip them for an entirely new world of choral singing."

Members of the Princeton University Glee Club will continue to have the opportunity to sing alongside professionals throughout the academic year, both as part of the Glee Club Presents series and in partnership with Princeton University Concerts. Events in the 2019/20 season include working with the Antioch Chamber Choir, Ensemble Basiani (Georgian State Vocal Ensemble), and sharing the stage with violinist Stefan Jackiw and pianist Jeremy Denk as the duo performs Charles Ives' complete violin sonatas. In this program, members of the Glee Club will sing the Americana classics that inspired Ives' sonatas.
