Two Premieres Last Weekend

December 1-2, 2018 was a big weekend for composition at the Department of Music, holding two world premiere performances. Faculty composer Donnacha Dennehy‘s Strange Folk was premiered by Quartet 212 (consisting of principal members of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra) as part of the Opening Celebration of Gustavo Dudamel’s residency at Princeton University Concerts*. Graduate student Natalie Dietterich saw the premiere of light, beloved, a concerto for guitar, performed at Carnegie Hall by the New York Youth Symphony and soloist JIJI under the baton of Michael Repper. Congratulations to both!

*Maestro Dudamel’s residency will also feature premieres by faculty composers Juri Seo (January, Members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic) and Steve Mackey (April, Members of the Berlin Philharmonic).
