Welcoming Jacqueline Appleby, Director of Administration and Operations

The Department of Music is thrilled to officially welcome Jacqueline Appleby as its first Director of Administration and Operations! Jacqueline has remotely joined the staff this week, coming to us from The Juilliard School where she spent the past twelve years in several roles including Administrative Director in the vocal arts department, and Vice President and Chief of Staff in the president's office. She brings her broad expertise to a new position whose responsibilities are now extended to supervise all Department functions, exclusive of Princeton University Concerts. Working closely with the Department Chair, Jacqueline will assist the faculty in realizing their academic and artistic visions, facilitate communication with students and alumni, provide mentorship and professional development for staff, oversee spending and budgets, and create and maintain a consistent, compelling, and evolving public image for the Department. Jacqueline’s experience in her previous role at The Juilliard School makes her well poised to take on these efforts. 

During her tenure at Juilliard, Jacqueline supervised several key areas of the school’s initiatives that will directly translate to the Department of Music’s current platform. This includes reinvigorating Juilliard’s Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging efforts, and spurring new programs and initiatives that emphasize creativity and interdisciplinary work. As administrative director for vocal arts, Jacqueline oversaw the administrative functions of the department. She worked closely with the artistic director, faculty and students to understand the needs of the community, and to align and prioritize resources based on the goals and objectives of the department. Jacqueline also served as Juilliard Opera's producer, working closely with guest and resident faculty conductors, directors, design teams, and music staff. Before coming to Juilliard, she was one of ten professional administrators selected to participate in a yearlong arts administration fellowship program at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. Prior to the fellowship, Jacqueline worked at her alma mater, the University of Notre Dame, as Director of Guest Services and University Outreach for the Marie P. DeBartolo Center for the Performing Arts. She holds a B.A. in music and American studies, as well as a M.M. in piano performance from the University of Notre Dame. 

When she is not working, Jacqueline enjoys running, making to-do lists, and spending time with her two daughters: five year-old Theodora (Teddy) and one year-old Lillian. Having recently moved from NYC, she is already enamored with the natural beauty and wildlife in the Princeton area. (Foxes?!) Above all else, Jacqueline looks forward to getting to know everyone in the Department.
