The Department of Music at Princeton University is excited to announce the launch of the Music Mentoring Program, a brand new, student-led near-peer mentoring initiative. The Music Mentoring Program works to pair music-department affiliated undergraduate students with trained mentors from the department’s Musicology and Composition graduate programs. All undergraduate students that have contact with the Department of Music through courses, ensembles, degree programs, and anything else are welcome and encouraged to sign up!
Mentors and mentees are free to meet as frequently or infrequently as desired, with options for recurring or one-time meetups. During these meetings, pairs can explore questions and concerns relating to their academic experiences as students interfacing with music in various ways; mentors will also receive a designated TigerCard with PawPoints to treat themselves and their mentees to coffee or snacks around campus while they meet.
The Music Mentorship Program is generously funded by a seed grant from TigerWell, a new health and well-being effort here at Princeton, and works to promote well-being and a thriving community within the department. The mission and vision of the program are threefold:
- To foster increased social connectedness between undergraduate and graduate student populations.
- To increase transparency regarding departmental resources and processes within the Music Department.
- To create space for both undergraduate and graduate students to examine their passions and purpose.
